RICHARD'S LIFE CHANGING STORY
Before I set up HELP TO STOP in the South / South West of the U.K. I was addicted for four years to Crystal Meth-amphetamine. I started taking Crystal Meth / Ice in 2010, initially by smoking 1 gram a week, and ending up smoking 1 gram a day, and sometimes up to 2 or 3 grams a day.
I only ever smoked it via a pipe. These photos below clearly show the effect it had on me. They were taken between 29th of August 2010 and September 2012.
The photos below were taken in July 2015. A complete transformation . . . . .
My Journey to Overcoming Crystal Meth Addiction
I started using crystal meth in early 2010. Before seeking treatment, I tried several times to quit on my own, but anyone who has been addicted to crystal meth will understand the immense challenge. The withdrawal process was agonizing—like a truck running over my bones. The intense sweating forced me to shower every 2–3 hours, and the mental toll was even worse: overwhelming depression and a flood of chaotic thoughts.
Over the course of three to four years, I attempted to quit twice, but I couldn’t endure the physical and emotional pain. It was simply too much.
Beginning Treatment
My treatment began on November 20, 2013, consisting of two-hour sessions over five days. On the first day, I arrived nervous and unsure of what to expect. I was fitted with bands on my wrists and connected to a machine. They told me to sit back and relax. I braced myself for pain—but to my surprise, there was none. Quite the opposite: it was deeply relaxing. I even fell asleep during the session.
When I woke up, I felt calm and slightly sleepy, but overall, I felt good. On the two-hour journey home, I waited for the dreaded withdrawal symptoms—sweating, pain, mental anguish—but nothing happened. That night, I slept soundly for the first time in years.
Each Day of Treatment
The second session was just like the first. I arrived, had the bands placed on my wrists, and fell asleep during the treatment. Again, no pain, no withdrawal, no sweating, no sadness. I felt so much better that I started to look forward to the next sessions.
The third and fourth sessions followed the same pattern: straps on the wrists, relaxing treatment, falling asleep, and waking up feeling refreshed. By the fourth day, I felt so good I even went for a walk before heading home.
The fifth and final session was no different. After the treatment, I walked around for hours with a big smile on my face, overwhelmed by a sense of peace and clarity. That feeling lasted for weeks.
The Results
It’s hard to put into words how transformative the experience was. Here’s an excerpt I wrote two weeks after my final treatment:
Crystal Meth Detox Testimonial
"I was using a gram of crystal meth daily. The treatment was incredibly easy—I just sat connected to the equipment and relaxed. After the first day, I felt an 80% reduction in cravings; by the second day, 90%. By the third day, I was completely free of them. The final sessions were just to ensure long-term stability.
On the first day, I felt fantastic—no pain in my bones, and everything felt manageable. I slept well, ate well, and though I was a little hazy at first, my mind became clearer by the second day. I kept waiting for withdrawal symptoms, but they never came. Two weeks later, I don’t even think about crystal meth. This has been a truly life-changing experience. The staff were amazing—they made me feel safe and supported throughout the process."
Key Takeaways
If you’re struggling with addiction, the most important step is wanting to quit—not because someone else is pressuring you, but because you want it. Another crucial step is distancing yourself from friends who use. I know this can be incredibly hard, but it’s necessary for your recovery.
I’m fortunate to have an incredible family and new, supportive friends who helped me through this journey. Today, I’m sharing my story to help others who might be in the same position I was.
This treatment saved my life, and I hope it can save yours too.
